And then you have someone like Foreman Spike who tells them that they’re never going to get anywhere, that they aren’t loyal, they aren’t ever going to make a big difference to anybody.

@StarBlues11 Donkey Kong is the champion hero of the Jungle Kingdom and Cranky’s heir, much like how Mario has become the champion of the Mushroom Kingdom and heir to his family’s plumbing business (alongside Luigi.) And there is pressure from both sides to succeed + live up to expectation.
So their grandfather would likely be the founder of the Mario family’s plumbing business in Italy. Mario and Luigi’s father, “Jumpman,” inherited ownership and passed it down to his sons after immigrating to America.
Mario and Luigi renamed it to “Super Mario Brothers Plumbing.”
