押井さんはこの頃、キャラクターよりも世界観を描くほうが重要だと思ってたらしいけど、この映画は実はかなりセンチメンタルな話でもある。
SACが「メスゴリラ」を定着させてしまったけど、この映画の素子は場面によって屈強な女性戦士にも見えるし、繊細な十代の少女のような顔もする。
