@theslowesthnery The creator of Yotsuba & as well as Azumanga Daioh started out drawing both Sailor Moon Doujinshi and occasional hentai doujinshi. Most creators in Japan start out drawing Doujinshi and more adult works aren’t at all uncommon.

and while I'm looking at the large scale people props, shout out to whoever dubbed this one 'Chiyo' in the old forum days after the Azumanga Daioh character because it has stuck with me
by the end of the series her eyes are cemented as their usual shade of brown, and that's what the anime and later official art goes with
azuma didn't start doing color azumanga art until later on in the series, and in the first bit of it (the volume 2 color inserts) her eyes are this interesting shade of bluish gray
