1702年のこの日（新暦では1703年1月30日）の夜、赤穂藩家老の大石内蔵助良雄ら赤穂浪士47人が、江戸の吉良邸に討ち入りをした。1701年3月、江戸城内で吉良上野介義央に切りかかった赤穂藩主の浅野内匠頭長矩が、切腹を命じられた事件が発端だった。
