Most of what we know about the Ainu in the early 17th century comes from the accounts of Christian missionaries, specifically Girolamo de Angelis (left) & Diogo Carvalho (right).

These two were some of the first Westerners to meet & interact with the Ainu, & write about them.

Wait Golden Kamuy rocks so hard actually. I knew that the series was going to feature an Ainu protagonist going in but I didn’t realise it was going to go into such details about the customs and culture. Asirpa is a wonderful character and I can’t wait to see her journey!

A bloody treasure hunt in Hokkaido involving the Russo-Japanese War veterans and the indigenous Ainu people. Like Dorohedoro, this manga features unhinged but very compelling and likable characters, along with irreverent graphic humour. Also F O O D!

That's a very interesting thought!
In Japan, it is thought that the "Ainu" people who lived in the Shinnoh area (Hokkaido) may have chosen Pokémon with motifs of Blakiston's fish owl, volcanoes, and sea otters, which they believed in!
