'Squirrel Nutkin', 16x12inch, oil.
Red squirrels are rare in Wales. The main populations are on Anglesey, and in mid-Wales, but there are a few other sites that still have reds, like Caldey Island here in Pembrokeshire, and the Llanddewi Brefi/Tregaron area in Ceredigion.

A walk on the stunning coastal path today - needed to blow away some sadness and find time for a touch of contemplation. Dropped off some books etc. at our local hospice shop on the way home and came out with a violin ... as you do.

2018 was Wales’ “Year of the Sea” so it seems like a good time to share a sea-faring dragon from the coasts of Snowdonia and Anglesey
One of our larger species, about the size of a domestic cat, they are seldom seen on land, preferring to hunt offshore amid the crashing surf.

Best known for his depictions of the Welsh landscape, Sir Kyffin Williams grew up on the island of Anglesey, situated on the north coast of Wales. With its beautiful sweeping hills and stunning coastline it is no wonder Williams became so inspired by the Welsh countryside.
