Today on Okazu - Kunoichi Bettegumi Igarashi Satsuki, Volume 3 (くノ一別手組ー五十嵐五月)

A surprisingly historically accurate series about a female samural, a maid from Ireland, ninja (two kinds) and probably a vampire in late Edo Yokohama.

A friend of mine moved to Canada from Ireland, but dearly missed her sister back home. She sent me some photos and I created this portrait for her as a gift. As I paint, I feel like I'm sharing in the warmth and the bond between the giver and recipient.

Our tenth animal! Phew, did I say there were quite a lot of animals? I have been lucky enough to see a Dolphin in the wild. It followed the boat we were on. I think it was a bit of a local hero in Ireland, but I can't recall where it was..Can anyone help me out?

Early November many years ago I got to see 4 Pallas's Warblers in a day in Cork, it has remained a favourite species ever since. Although I haven't seen another in Ireland, I have been fortunate to see countless 100's or even 1000's in Asia since.

‘The land of Ireland, we both felt, was powerfully alive and invisibly peopled…If only we could make contact with the hidden forces of the land it would give us strength for the freeing of Ireland…our talk centred round this and it led us both into strange places’

No night trains run in Ireland,
On October Thirty-One,
Drivers know well to have their engines parked,
By the setting of the sun.

For after twilight’s darkening,
And before the midnight black,
The Devil’s Locomotive runs,
And thunders down the track.
