This morning @CourtauldRes Associate Lecturer and @PaulMellonCentr Postdoctoral Fellow Dr Thomas Hughes gave a brilliant work-in-progress talk for us about his current research on ‘Queer Ruskin’, thinking about relationships between ecology and sexuality.

Douglas Pittuck 1911–1993 b. Plumstead, London, artist & teacher, studied under the likes of Eric Ravilious at the Ruskin. He remained an active artist whilst teaching at Barnard Castle School & his impressive mural still graces the east wall of the town’s St Mary’s Parish Hall.
Lithographs by #EdwardLear from #JohnGould's 'Birds of Europe', a large-scale work on European bird-life published in five volumes between 1832-1837. Gould wrote the text & it was illustrated with 448 lavish plates, 68 of these by Lear.
