The shape of their cocoons can vary according to where they are located, usually, they resemble the dragon species that is the most abundant and most feared in their area. There are even some instances where multiple larvae formed one giant dragon cocoon.

For #NationalInsectDay, 2 of my illustrations of insects + reasons I appreciate them: 1) the Northern paper wasp, hunter of asparagus beetle larvae that devour my asparagus; 2) the lovely Goldenrod gall fly, inducer of wonderfully interesting & iconic galls on my fave wildflower.
