Cú Chulainn, Irish hero of the Rúraíocht/Ulster Cycle.

Nearing death, he wanted to die on his feet fighting his enemies. He tied himself to a large stone, usually identified as Cloghafarmore (Stone of the Big Man) in Co. Louth.

In the Lake District for today's First, the wonderful museum, reopened in 2019. Pair of paintings by Philippe Jacques de Loutherbourg, designed to delight a London audience: “Belle Isle, Windermere, in a Calm”(1786) and same “in a Storm” (1785).

Louth was originally the site of a shrine to the Irish god Lugh, so St Mochta would have had a battle! His monastery📷 gained nationwide reputation. He was an accomplished scholar, especially learned in scripture. He wrote a rule for monks, but no trace of it has survived.
