Yudetamago have talked a bit about perhaps continuing Nisei someday (possibly with a “Neo Scramble for the Throne”, presumably a Nisei version of OG Kinnikuman’s final arc). In the meantime though, they have a new project: a revival of the 80s series! But more on that tomorrow...

After 29 volumes, in 2004 Nisei shifted to the Weekly Playboy website for its second phase: a long (28 volume!) crossover tag tournament where Mantaro and friends travel back in time to face off against Kinnikuman and co. in their prime. This ran to 2011, but was never animated.

On that note: the original Kinnikuman had two anime series, but neither were ever released in English (nor was the manga). Nisei though was released in the US as Ultimate Muscle, both in manga and anime form. This remains the only official Kinnikuman release in English.

In 1998 Yudetamago began Kinnikuman Nisei (2nd Generation, aka Ultimate Muscle), chronicling the exploits of Kinnikuman’s son, Mantaro. This helped kick off a wave of revival manga that continues to this very day (I hear even Dragon Ball has gotten in on the act).
