When Rebecca Guay's Secret Lair "Mother of Runes" was revealed last month, I went & revisited her amazing MTG art, especially the work that I was less familiar with (ie Lorwyn era).

Despite the flavor text, I dont remember ever noticing the horse hidden on Sylvan Echos before...

We pulled influences from films like The Black Cauldron, which you can see in the cauldron itself and the nod to the Horned King for the Necromancer's Lair. enjoyed leaning into more dark and brooding colour scheme in BGs surrounding the Skull.

The ship figurehead you get for reaching Level 50 in the Hunter's Call company is modeled after him, right down to the cartoony eyes!

just finished LAIR. my assessment of it stands, so underrated. the last couple of chapters were so spectacular. this is the game equiv of a cecil b demille picture, outlandishly spectacular. few other games have have given me those feelings, like ASURA’S WRATH and VANQUISH

While they're called the "Ruins of Hope" in English, in the Japanese Version, Tapu Fini's lair is called "彼岸の遺跡" or as Bulbapedia calls it, "Ruins of the Other Side", apparently directly referencing https://t.co/SxutPkOjzz which is similar to the River Styx in Greek mythos.

The triggered so many memories. Of her days in the forest, of ghosts who lived in the trees, the visit to Voklìere, the underworld lair of animals who humans couldn't see. The tattoo, & the man bearing it, his face handsome as a lion's, triggered so many memories.
