Happy #StGeorgesDay, in which we remember a Greek, or Turkish, or maybe Syrian, probably fictional soldier as a symbol of everything that makes England great - stealing stuff & making a lot of noise about it!
Pictured: 15th century painting of St George from Ranworth, Norfolk.
Happy birthday to my dear Turkish friend, Zeki! 🇦🇪💞🇹🇷

Halil Pasha (c.1857 → Istanbul ← August, 1939) was a Turkish painter and art teacher. He was one of Turkey's first Impressionists.
His family was originally from Rhodes and his father, Selim, was one of the founders of the Turkish Military Academy.

If you're in Turkey today, you'll see my latest doodle for Orhan Veli Kanık! He was a Turkish poet who cast off traditional writing conventions for a more accessible style.

"Being a mix of Iranian and Turkish but not feeling enough of either, my main connection to my culture is food. I feel a bit like an alien a lot of the time so I wanted to show the food in an alien, other-wordly & almost unrecognisable way."
