Florilegium, or flower books, were compiled as visual explanations of plants, illustrating as many aspects of a flower as possible including its roots and growth. This florilegium is one of the earliest examples, engraved by Flemish designer Adriaen Collaert in Antwerp in 1593.

Marie-Louise de Tassis,163 by Anthony van Dyck (his Flemish name) was born to prosperous parents in Antwerp. His father was Frans van Dyck, a silk merchant, and his mother was Maria, daughter of Dirk Cupers and Catharina Conincx.
