This is my latest concentration piece of the slavic goddess Zorya. She is a goddess of protection who guards the Ursa minor constellation which is holding Simargl the doomsday hound.

Happy to share I painted a while back for my worldbuilding, a Volga Bulgar warrior woman! I imagine her being a descendant of the Amazones.

Someone suggested a slavic name for her. Someone else said scandinavian 🤔

Inspired by the photo "Peasant Girls" of Prokudin-Gorsky, made around a century ago in the Russian Empire, and by the music video (Cossack's lezginka) of Otava Yo where these girls became alive again

Dazhbog, Slavic god of the sun, fire, justice and fertility (close up shots)

Angel of fire, light up the skies to show us our paths, may you come down and radiate mother earth so we reap the most beautiful harvest. Praise the sun!

More refined sketches done of the god Dazhbog. Getting into details as well as experimenting with poses. It's time to vote for your favourite design and pose! :)

As a Russian language learner who understand 2/5 of everyday conversation, I’m kinda fan of the concept of Interslavic language.

Slavic Pin Set 01 - Kelpie, Nøkken, Baba Yaga

These will all be wooden 1"-1.5" pins! Maybe eventually enamel pins, but for now just wooden pins as this small set! Very fun working on these with all of the subtle symbolism. They'll be available at Zenkaikon 2020!

and so are my characters.
I draw and write about the fae folk, taking from old fables about changelings and white wyrms. I love many traditional Slavic arts and fashions, incorporating elements of them into my own work!
Any pronouns✨

*udrós 'water' was a PIE adjective

this led to English 'otter', as well as the words for 'otter' in Sanskrit (udrá), Latin (lutra) and Slavic (e.g. Czech vydra)

but, in Greek, it became húdrā 'water snake', origin of the mythological Hydra

yes, 'Hydra' and 'otter' are cognates

I've noticed that many artists are creating their which is fine, but sometimes their name selection is simply silly for native speakers. Not that I think they shouldn't name them with slavic names, its just Bożena, Felek, Krzyś or Beata doesn't sound badass for us.

Drekavac: From South Slavic mythology, this creature appears at night, especially during the 12 days of Christmas. Coming from the souls of sinful men (or unbaptised children), it predicts death or cattle disease.
