I just found out about this today. But apparently the smears in Z 17 are unused (or at the very least the texture portion). While Z 17 DOES have smears in his model and his color01 textures, the game uses a generic yellow line smear, so if used (unless color01) they'll be green.

@MasteredRealm Could easily be the crust, but Sonic's jumpball seems a lot more smear heavy than the final game? Feels a lot more akin to an Adventure-esque one, and I honestly really dig it.
