When I first started, I didn't know about layers! So I'd sketch my art on paper, take a picture of it, put it into gimp, and draw over it all in one layer. :')

First digital art (2008) vs a recent one (chose a similar color palette)! I didn't have a tablet yet for the first one. I think I recall using the curves tool sloooowly in gimp for the line art over my scanned sketch lol.

I started drawing digitally when I found The Lion King Fan Art Archive. All I had was a mouse, a sad family computer, and Game Maker, which I preferred over MS Paint for some odd reason. Now I have a Wacom Bamboo, a nice new laptop, and GIMP! https://t.co/m5FLgOCPNO

I used to use my laptop track pad with gimp LOL

I now use a wacom intuos pro (med) ~

I might not be 100% where I want my art to be, but I am 100% better than I was 10 years ago.
I am learning and trying new things everyday!

alternatively you can just apply posterization > mosaic > posterization for a similar effect

there's a way to finesse GIMP to create even sharper mosaic transitions but I can't for the life of me remember what on earth the process was
