Huh - I never knew this, but it appears the Pteranodon is heavily based on this art by Mineo Shiraishi.

It's quite similar, with only some of the features exaggerated to look meaner, and the colors slightly altered.

My illustration of a member of the order Titanoptera, insects from the Triassic! They were related to modern grasshoppers, and had what seems to be raptorial forelegs. Their wingspan could reach 36cm.

For here's of uberfamous pterosaur Pteranodon on a rock. The depicted species is Pteranodon longiceps under the generally accepted scheme of Pteranodon nomenclature, but others would class this as Pteranodon sp. 1/n

"Put her in Smash! She's every bit as vital a part of Nintendo history as the purple pteradactyl bloke!" - myself, in reference to Robin from Pilotwings 64, a character nobody remembers from a game nobody played

Really enjoyed this. I loved Toothless' softer design so I wanted to try my own. (also mixed some nile monitor, leopard gecko, and pteranodon for good measure)
