made a pair of models! here's detective spooky and will o wisp. the ones on the left are shaded normally and rendered in blender cycles while the ones on the right are toon shaded and rendered in eevee.

Went back to check and yeah you're absolutely right about him mentioning it. This does contradict Colors DS which is supposed to canon as the Mother Wisp is but I think it's just another instance of inconsistency, IDW isn't canon either so who knows at this point.

the hollow knight wisp lamp was super fun to make; i synced a custom, choppy wind with a flipbook texture to make a procedural animation. the rock surface detail for the eggs was made entirely procedurally in substance for fun
