1867年、江戸の牛込馬場下横町に生まれた夏目漱石(本名:金之助)は、『吾輩は猫である』、『坊っちゃん』、『三四郎』などを発表し、日本近代文学を代表する作家として活躍した。1916年12月9日、『明暗』執筆中に49歳で亡くなった。
