Trouble on Mars is the second Vella serial set in a 1940s pulp-inspired solar system, where all the planets have human-breathable atmospheres and most have sentient natives. I stirred 1940s pulp detectives into the mix. /1

I agree. These have also not been published too often unlike the stories of the 1950s. Kari Korhonen has made some short stories and covers in Barks' 1940s style, but they haven't quite reached the same spirit.

Towing gliders with a long wire could be a dangerous business, so this 'short tow link' was experimented with in the late 1940s, using a Curtiss C-46 and a WACO CG-4 glider.
This fixed 'tow-bar' replaced the long wire rope, but was not adopted. It looks just as dangerous to me!
