One of the most revered (and rightly so) Japanese illustrators is Noriyoshi Ohrai (RIP). It just takes a look to some of his poster art to see why: it's striking. Iconic. His technique, composition and use of color were nothing short of impressive.
Remember in Ready Player One when Wade told Nolan "a fan boy knows a hater" and then when they fought later Nolan has a version of Mechazilla that only existed in Ohrai Noriyoshi's painting for Godzilla vs Mecha Godzilla? I dunno, maybe Nolan was just a weeb.

@DaveDexterMusic @AOtreus If firearms aesthetics weren't so integral to Metal Gear's design I would agree. However their distinct visuals is why Kojima picked the FAMAS, PGS1 etc. specifically. Ohrai and Shinkawa still drew screen accurate firearms despite the graphics. It's the biggest difference imo.
