I decided to practice pacing and paneling comics.
This one goes nowhere but feel free to read anyways! (1/4)

For a better comparison here’s a fight from earlier on

It’s okay, but at times the movement is a bit more confusing, choreography isn’t too unique, especially with those aspects compared to his newer chapters

(I will say tho, the paneling isn’t cluttered here)

Toyo definitely had a lot of questionable/bad pieces of art earlier on, but moreso I feel like his biggest downfall was his paneling

Rushing through arcs didn’t help, but his pages always felt so cluttered with very little flow

should probably resolve to living my life flamboyantly too.... didn't understand shit when i was reading this part before bc of the paneling and it was bnw but seeing it animated rly brOUGHT MY SPIRIT BACK TO LIFE. 1000/10!!!

So time for an update on #Joakimhurst.
This was just a test page Ashkan did, we are going to make the art a bit more stylized and the paneling much more dynamic!
This week I revised the first chapter and the story is heading to a much better place than before.

Furuhashi Kazuhiro - the strongest and most fun storyboarder/episode director on Ranma's rotation. Really playful with photography, colors and paneling but also great at presenting action and making serious moments feel special. And I still have about 20 episodes of his left.

There are still issues and questionable aspects, but overall I do like this version most

Also some amazing panels all over, each chapter has many standout panels.

Toyo’s art has some odd moments ofc also a ton of improvement. Choreography, paneling, art, etc are all better.

Character interactions are enjoyable, Toyo’s art and paneling are MUCH better, and it seems like he had a lot of fun writing this one because it focused on all the right things

Every interaction is enjoyable even if some are just the same as the anime

Ended up checking out two graphic novels this month: Daytripper was really nice, with an interesting premise and a heartwarming message, while 4 Kids Walk Into a Bank was kind of batshit crazy with some good surreal comedy. Really neat art and paneling too.

Just Finished Vol 1 of Devilman by Go Nagai. For a series written in the early 70s, the story really holds itself today pretty well, the paneling when wanting induce fear truly does it well and the art though dated for it's time is really high quality surprise me. Vol 2 next!

I've been reading this manga since day 1, and it's a fun weekly read. The characters have slowly grown on me and it's gotten funnier and quirkier with every chapter 😂 I love the art, and the paneling is so neat!! A treat for the eyes ✨
