Every time someone tells me “crocodiles are living fossils, they have never changed in millions of years” I go and reconstruct one of the MANY odd looking pseudosuchians (croc-line archosaurs) that will appear in my book #paleoart #pseudosuchians
It's finally out! 85 years in the making, but the early archosaur Mandasuchus tanyauchen from the Middle Triassic of Tanzania finally has an official name! New paper out now with @VTechmeetsPaleo David Gower & @NHMdinolab & art from @MarkWitton: https://t.co/QCfw2J5jEN [thread]
here's the female #pteranodon in my #SavageAncientSeas #paleoart. There's decent evidence suggesting that pt-donz w smaller crests & overall body size were ladies & the big crested weirdos wer dudes - one of very few clear cases of #sexualdimorphism in the archosaur fossil record
A female (left) and male (right) of some archosaur chimera dragon abomination that I drew and liked.

#ArchosaurArtTips 10 Facial soft tissues remain THE issues of dinosaur life appearance. There are heroes on both sides. Evil is everywhere.
#ArchosaurArtTips 2. Small ornithischians (some? most? all?) had filamentous covering over much of the body & limbs. Not covered in scales.
