And so ends the 2020 Grand Road Trip! From sea to shining sea, there are so many cool and unique fish species. While one day we'll be able to travel and explore again, don't forget there are awesome fish right in your own backyard!

The redhorses are often studied as a group because the different species are *really* tough to tell apart, even for biologists. ID usually involves *lots* of counting of lateral scales + fin rays. Fisheries science is exciting!! (📷: https://t.co/tfBD9O4EWJ)

Getting into crunch time on Day 20 of so I need to turn it up a notch. The Olympic Mudminnow may be cute cut can it hang with this crew (pocket shark, Acyrtus clingfish, Jeboehlkia, and Palatogobius)?

Congrats to all the - you all deserve a gold medal for guessing the Olympic mudminnow! 🏅

Thanks for everyone's participation throughout this year’s team-ups! And to for creating such a wonderful community!

1/5 Day 16 of brings a fish that likes to hang around uninvited! & while there are a number of ornamental fish in the 🇦🇺 industry that also quite literally suck (onto aquarium glass) I'll be focusing on the often overlooked & uninvited hitchhikers of the trade... https://t.co/FeRqZjViMv

🎶Everybody's gone sturgeon, Sturgeon USA🎶

While you might not be able to have a white sturgeon chances are likely you're not too far from a species of sturgeon- there are 9 species/subspecies in N. America, all of which are found in the US

And with today's 'O'opu 'alam'o, we say goodbye to the southwestern US portion of the road trip. From a goby that climbs up waterfalls, to a pupfish that lives in 90°F water, the fishes of the southwest are a resilient bunch! On to the Pacific Northwest + Alaska!

Southeast Edition:
Candy darter, Blue catfish, Sailfin molly, Alabama cave fish, Barrens topminnow, Alligator gar, Bluehead chub.

Started the sketch for today’s / at 5am but didnt get a chance to finish until now.

This long boi is an Alligator Gar (Atractosteus spatula) - a bony fish that lives in swamps, bayous, & slow-moving rivers in southern US and northern Mexico.

Two-fold contribution today. I’ve committed to a collage of each region is posting for (one left to add) and a WIP for this week’s guess - alligator

Congrats to everyone who guessed "alligator gar" for this week's mash-up!

There are 3 big catfish species in North America (big in body size AND popularity): the channel, flathead, and blue catfish. Blue catfish are most often confused with channel catfish, but have a straight anal fin (the channel has a curved one)
