If you want more 'Seinen' with its demographic but still magical girl, there's also Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. I can't vouch for it since I haven't actually seen it, but it was pretty much the Madoka Magica of its time during the early & mid 2000's. Highly praised at the time!
