The crowd pleasing elephant ride to the ‘Palace of Pankot’ was filmed at the nearby Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. It’s the largest captive herd in the world and was established in 1975 as an orphanage, nursery and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants.
