Why would they climb these pillars? It seems that the first saint to live on a column, St. Symeon the Stylite, was deliberately looking for a way to be both solitary and involved. Over the years he increased the height of the column, yet always remained surrounded by pilgrims.

The dance of sands was used to hide armies as they moved towards enemies. The figure at the front of the column, deep in the whipping winds, was the high priest. A vortex of obfuscation to bring her army deep to strike true. They push forward in the pocket of safety she provided.
