it depends on the kind of character you're making, but generally i keep it simple. tho i like having hair overlap with itself or parts of the character's body to give it a sense of depth even when in reality the shapes and design are very simple

honestly same, i like to keep their face shapes similar to how their animators draw them or if they didn't give them a face then id try to draw it in a way that other animators did..
