I will say though, trying to paint brushed gold was actually a lot of fun. Maybe I should invest in some texture brushes to really sell that feeling.

(It's still not good though - it feels out of place, like a 3d model in a 2d drawing. Which it's not.)

Facial expressions are incredibly important to show emotions, specially when it comes to animation! A good trick is to exaggerate on the eyes, eyebrows and mouth, to provide a clear message of what the character is feeling.
