For the fullscreen stuff in SAI, I wind up taking a high-res image, downscaling it accounting for PAR, and drawing over it. Using the original for reference.

This's how the most recent solo thing I did was done. Ironically, with a slightly off PAR for online distribution. 3/3

And even then... Not all reference is a good reference.

You have to be selective with your reference, draw what looks good to you.
