Mario’s entire design and concept is so interesting because he feels like something you don’t usually see out of a video game character.

I'm talking about the origin of the specific drawing of Mario holding the mushroom, but yeah the US Mario 2 manual art had Mario with red overalls, despite coming out at the same time as Mario 3 did in Japan, which had the blue overalls. They "fixed" it in the All-Stars manual.
