I learned the derivation of SERENDIPITY from dramatist Alain-René Lesage, born May 6 1668: Sri Lanka's Arabic name=SERENDIB. His wildly colonialist harlequinade "Arlequin roi de Serendib" (1713) adapts Euripides' IPHIGENIA IN TAURIS & folktales about finding treasure accidentally
From 'One Thousand and One Nights' (Aladdin, I assume). The folktale was not part of the original Arabic text, it was added in the 1700s by a Frenchman who said it was told him by a Syrian storyteller. Illustrated here by Edmund Dulac in 1907. #ArabianNights #MagicLamp
And lastly today, here is the FCBD story that started my style of Mouse Guard short folktales. Inspired by Chaucer's Pardoner's Tale & @jk_rowling's Tale of the Three Brothers here is The Wise Weaver: https://t.co/SmG2vUkPmz #FreeComicBookDay
Did you know that The White Snake (TOON's upcoming graphic novel) is an adaptation of a folktale that appeared in the original Brothers Grimm?

In Japan there is a folktale about 80 suitors who met an injured rabbit on their journey. All were cruel to the rabbit but one, Okuminushi, who was gentle hearted & helped the rabbit. In the end he was the one the princess chose.
