So this time around, when I made @rae_xiv 's full tattoos I did the smart thing. I kept *all* of it on separate layers. Purchased some stock images and stencil brushes to use, and weathered them for ink fade. I love how they came out, and am pretty proud of them.

I go through a LOT of sketch layers.
The journey to any picture is different for everyone so don't be discouraged.

@sparkeface Lots of great ideas in this thread about lighting and design schemes. I'll just add that both of these can help set the tone for each scene, and show transition between scenes. If you're not sure of colors, you can color normally and add color filters/layers.
