French painter #PaulDelaroche was born #OnThisDay 1797. He painted portraits and depictions of major events in French and British history, such as the execution of Lady Jane Grey and a more realistic Napoleon, riding on a mule while crossing the Alps or defeated at Fontainebleu.
An 1806 propaganda painting of Emperor Napoleon freeing the Jews. Revolutionary France made Jews equal citizens, a process he continued. Moreover, he supported Jewish emancipation and anti-ghetto laws in the countries he conquered.
