Maybe use his official portrait for guidance instead of something rendered in a 3d environment.

The skin of the portrait seems close to the render, but it's an extra precaution if you don't want your reference to be influenced by lighting.

Switching from curves to cards isn't a brilliant idea considering how long it takes to render, but I was feeling lazy and didn't want to append particles again. Final experiment made to test the model I made. The lips were a lucky hit.
