Never mind the Ides of March, 24th August was a bad date to be Roman. Vesuvius (79AD), Aleric's pillage of Rome (410AD) & the Vandal pillage of Rome (455 AD) all took place OTD. Throw in the Norman sack of Byzantine Thessalonika (1185AD) & its a day to stay in the lectulo.
