Today's #CelebratingIllustratorsAndBooks is by #MauriceSendak for WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE (1963). Sendak won the #Caldecott Medal from the children's librarians in 1964, recognizing Wild Things as the previous year's "most distinguished American #picturebook for children"
Extremely cool book alert! This is a perfect read aloud about the Mars rover, Curiosity. And the illustrations!!! Definitely a potential #mockcaldecott Cant wait to use as a #classroombookaday read aloud!

“Ever read a book you just wanted to give All the Things to? I want this book to win a Newbery. I want this book to win a Caldecott. I want it to win an Eisner, a Printz, a New York Times Best Illustrated, a Boston Globe-Horn Book Award..." - @FuseEight https://t.co/mX2Dz3rcE0
@tanaudel I bought a first edition Caldecott last year for under 20 pounds. Much cheaper 2nd edition. A signed limited edition Burne Hogarth in 'fill a bag with secondhand books for $5' store. There are lots of interesting vintage books that children can buy for very little outlay.

Bryan Collier has won so many Caldecott & CSK awards that he must have an extra wing on his house to fit all his prizes! But he’s Mr. Modest. We had a great time at the @carlemuseum, where we’re both board members.
Trina Schart Hyman, Cricket Magazine's first art director, would have celebrated her 80th birthday today. The #illustrator of over 150 books and a Caldecott Medal winner, she sadly passed away in 2004. We're celebrating her wonderful work today! #kidlitart #kidlit
Sendak Sunday: Maurice Sendak's glorious watercolor illustrations for Mr. Rabbit and the Lovely Present. It was a Caldecott Medal Honor Book for 1963 and was one of Sendak's Caldecott Honor Medal of a total of seven during his career.
