When designing the Terrifics' team pet, Element Dog, chose to make him a pit bull terrier because it's the breed he imagines Rex, aka Metamorpho, would be if he were a dog. He also wanted to give pit bulls some positive representation.

Also, I can say this with confidence: I ran through a flooding apt to save my pets. I would do it again if I ever had to. even the betta was ferried to safety. No pet left behind, not if I can help it.
