Hana-bi (1997 - Takeshi Kitano) - aka Fireworks. A masterpiece of stillness broken by moments of violence, like the titular fireworks. Each frame a piece of art and a Joe Hisaishi score that feels at odds with what’s on screen, but so very perfect at the same time.

🫣Mario Bava’s KILL BABY KILL (1966) on what would’ve been his birthday! An atmospheric masterclass in lighting, dissolves, & zooms; this Gothic Golden Age finale had a budget of less than 50K & was the only film funded by F.U.L. Film/Catenacci, who plays Karl!

this movie seems to get better each time I watch it. Looks great on the big screen for sure. Now, roll on October and the full film festival!
