Various pieces of artwork of Sonic skiing from the Sonic Adventure Stylebook
(illus. by Yuji Uekawa)
I wanted to try the Uekawa style again but add my own flair to it
Also I decided on the name of the Porcupine OC

@KingMist15 @tome_iu You recreated a piece of art from Sonic Shuffle, which has some of the BEST ARTWORK of Uekawa in the Adventure Era?!?!?!
WHY DON’T YOU MISS FOR GOD’S SAKES?!?!?!
@AbelMunizJr @KazuyukiHoshino After doing comparisons between recent Sonic Channel art by Uekawa-san (‘19~‘22) and Sonic Pict art by Karasuno-san, I’m leaning towards it being the work of Yui Karasuno. Without going into heavy detail, a very easy indicator is the way each artist draws Tails and Amy’s bangs.
@TheHuggingSonic @KoofGoat_2iq @SonicWindBlue @TobyTron_ His feet are like blobs, which looks better than giving him actual toes.
Yuji Uekawa was the first to implement this
@TheKevstermania The only image of these three that I really have any problems with is the Blaze image, it's not quite what she would look like in Uekawa's style.
And this comes back to references. Don't be afraid to use them, as long as you're not blatantly copying or tracing them, you're good.
@Animate_Sen If It’s by Uekawa, then use Jam/Saturn Sonic.
If in general, Ohshima and Totoya work:
@ToluPopoola5 I never thought I’d see the day where they’d stop using the Shadow 05~current CG model as the mold for all their merchandise. Really wish they’d take another crack at replicating Uekawa’s style like the late 90s~early 2000s stuff. This statue is so sick.
@MainJPW IT REALLY IS. You can really tell the difference between Uekawa’s style and the style of the current models:
GREAT start!
Decided to mix 90’s Uekawa with realistic shading.
Thanks for coming to the stream!

💎Aw, Yeah! This is happenin'!💎
I finally finished it! My latest attempt at Uekawa's style, even tho it's really long to do it's really fun and I'm very happy with the final result, hope you'll like it!

@PersonthePerso2 For me while of course it's heavily outdated today, it just has the cool 2000s Sonic vibe to it that make me love these renders; like a ed version of Uekawa's artwork basically. Hell the model actually looks better in some angles like this
#MugiDrawsZero
This elite Maverick Hunter has entered the stage. I got lazy doing my Uekawa highlights n shadows so it’s flat color for today.

Hell, this was even the case back then with SA1&2 (among other titles), they made the in-game models replicate whatever current 2D artwork uekawa had at the time, and of course, as his artstyle evolved, so did the models.
The current sonic character models are supposed to be 3D representations of yuji uekawa's current 2D art style, and IMO, their pretty accurate all things considered.
