From , nicknamed “Jurassic Mom,” an ichthyosaur (Stenopterygius) fossilized with 7 unborn offspring, found in Holzmaden— a not-so-uncommon occurrence in that region. This was, by far, my fave specimen at this awesome museum. Visit if you’re in Houston! 👍🏻

Nonetheless, they all have features that belie their separate origins. You can inspect a dolphin and understand it's a mammal, an ichthyosaur a reptile, and a shark a cartilaginous fish. Similarly, the little scalebat has features that aren't that far off from a Rathian/Rathalos.

This is an ichthyosaur with actual skin preserved. Not just that, but even the dorsal and tail fins are preserved! Oh, and the skin around its fins. Ichthyosaurs are epic, just saying

Writing about ichthyosaurs for LTTAII - reworked Ophthalmosaurus now features alongside Triassic taxa. Text is >50% done and images are almost finished, but progress is slow due to other commitments. This'll be another book finished via late nights and early starts.
