A storm-petrel silk faille & taffeta visiting dress, by Charles Worth from the 1870s, trimmed with dark Atlantic-grey-silver steel beads; a gown for hot tisane & petits fours, dispelling old melancholy, whilst outside the rain sheets & the city rumbles then stills like the sea.
Petrel turning into a Ditto. He's pretty forgotten so might as well give it a go. Tried Ken Sugimori style. Maybe more of these style of beans into the future?
Another of last years illustrations for the European Breeding Bird Atlas, Leach's Petrel. I found trying to paint a small, dark and nocturnal bird in it's breeding habitat was difficult and it was easy to go too dark.
Here's a beautiful mystery story about an ocean bird in the world's driest desert. Up until last year, no one knew where the Ringed Storm-Petrel nested. Then a group of young Chileans sniffed out their burrows (literally!) in the Atacama Desert. https://t.co/suPnhQoKmi
4/4 #WSTC4 #ConsBio3 Another adventure involved staying up night after night in the rain on Little Barrier Island—where New Zealand storm petrels were recently found nesting after being thought extinct for the entire 20th century. @NNZST @aucklandmuseum https://t.co/P0svJh0YZg
