Which would give you greater pleasure? 1) Going back to the Permian period to observe Dimetrodons for a few hours. 2) Going back to Pleistocene and hanging out with Homo erectus for a few hours. (Assume you will return safely and have no deleterious impact on history.)
Im on a #Pleistocene Epoch good roll this week so here is an #Irish elk / #Megaloceros_giganteus. The furr patterns are based on findings on cave paintings witch u can see on the second pic here;

This is one piece back from 2016, reconstruction of an irish elk, Megaloceros giganteus, surrounded by a group of snow buntings (Plectrophenax nivalis). Megaloceros lived in Eurasia between late Pliocene and late Pleistocene, becoming extinct shortly after the last ice age.

Extinction of Late Pleistocene vultures was skewed towards large species and attributed to a decline in the diversity of large terrestrial mammals. No wonder Old World vultures are struggling today with food shortages being just one of many threats (Galetti et al., 2017)
For #FossilFriday, here's a walrus posing for a holiday snap during a busy day in Pleistocene Doggerland (a landmass now under the north sea). The walrus is our modern species, but most of the other species are extinct. #paleoart
