Been a while since I tried to draw Bernard, my melanistic bycorne character, so I'm messing around with CSP paintbrushes and chiaroscuro again.

Young Man
I personally like Rembrandt's Kiaroscuro technique, which expresses light and darkness dramatically. To express a young character like that I tried.

"Virgin Of The Rocks" by Leonardo Da Vinci, 1483–1486. Oil on wood transferred to canvas, Louvre, Paris. A beautiful example of the usage of "chiaroscuro" or subtle play of light and dark shading makes this an ultimate favorite!

There's some gorgeous natural light today, great for capturing contrasting imagery like this painting by one of our 🎨📷

Hey, thanks for the artshare! And for the aesthetic question, I really like chiaroscuro and B&W negative space.

Something I've been playing with as stress relief in this perfectly horrific week... new phone-colored version of Pan. I don't know how to add light flares on the water with my phone though, which is necessary to make sense of the 2-light-sources chiaroscuro. A well, f*ck it.

Copies of Caravaggio's innovative paintings travelled to Holland where Rembrandt saw them.

The Italian's influence then changed his work from small colourful scenes to the chiaroscuro effects we now associated with the Dutch painter.

I love the chiaroscuro art style that was used for Metroid Zero Mission.

Feels very inline with the series’ more horror, sci-fi, and action elements. It’s suprising that they never really stuck with this, it would add another element to the franchise that’s wholly unique
