I must admit, the DOS version of it is very good too. I was just never able to work out the Gravis Ultrasound drivers, coz I'd much prefer to play it with the Amiga-style music in the background as I get my Settlers to, well, settle. 😋 It's just beautiful to see it in High Res.

The Settlers on the was some what of a turning point for games, I think many games after this used the Settlers as a blueprint, its no wonder this series continues to day.

My brother had "Serf City" (The alt name for "The Settlers") on his PC, back in the day. But I was a staunch Amigan, so I kinda dismissed it as a simple port with a SVGA mode. But I wish they'd put a high-res interlace mode in the Amiga version. It's so nice to have a wider view.

But now I've been checking out "The Settlers." Which is an excellent wee medieval Sim City-ish game, with more of a focus on roads, mines, and a little combat. The DOS version, though lacking the music I love, has used the extra colours and resolution well. (Amiga then DOS pics.)

Serf City / The Settlers was such a brilliant game.
The combat never grabbed me - probably because they just fought one at a time, so there wasn't much advantage to a bigger army. But I loved building sprawling cities, and trying to set up a roading network that didn't suck. 😋
