One of my all time favorites is Klonoa: Door to Phantomile. An underrated PS1 platform gem, you play as Klonoa as you traverse through Phantomile to stop the evil Ghadius' plot to put Phantomile in darkness. This game has it's sad moments in it (which I won't spoil)

Mods have proven before you can make the older models look fine with some work. Having the official engine would make that easier.
And tbh when I was playing as uroboros Wesker impaling people instead of tyrant the game became much more fun
