Sine I'm still seeing it. They didn't trace. The artwork is made before the sprites and models and sometimes they use one of the poses in the concept art as it's 'official art' and other times they just make an all new one.
They've been doing it since Gen 3... C'mon now
As a bonus treat here's the bakes from my high-poly base mesh for the AK, couple small bake issues I need to iron out but that's about it. I traced the *entire* thing from scratch to get this level of surface quality & to be able to make skins for it with Fusion 360

the fact that most of the new pokemon's official artworks are traced 3d models is incredibly sad. offical pokemon artwork was always full of personality and was what best represented the creatures, but now they just look cheap and soulless. how low can this franchise sink, christ
