For the art, I do it two different ways. Sometimes it starts out as a normal concept that is just magical, like the goggles OR it's a brand new concept, something that doesn't already exist, like the cape. 1/3
Turing VQGAN's outputs into grayscale before passing them on to CLIP has interesting effects on the output. Maybe without color as a way to quickly convey a concept, it has to do more with structure (compare to the one color version, same prompt).

While we were still figuring out how to handle Malachite, I made this piece of concept art. The story presented in it ended up being so strong that it made it all the way into the volume itself! I also made this other concept, a more eclectic combination of the sisters' designs.
