He's everything a rival needs to be.

My take on horses:

Thanks to mlp, now I see them as potential protagonists, even though they may be farm animals.

That wavy pattern that her fur takes is indicative of her secret ability to conjure portals.
The portals all have wavy and wobbly borders.

She tends to sling them from her tail if she needs to open them up in secret, but she can conjure them from her hands as well.

Why I like classic anime - it's not always obvious and simple.
